Google releases Me on the Web tool

Google announced a new tool Me on the Web It's a component of the Google Dashboard that allows you to set up custom Google Alerts for mentions of your name or email address in news articles. In addition, it offers tips and resources for helping to monitor and control your online identity.

The Me on the Web section lists links from your profile as well as various websites that make reference to it. These links are sites that are integrated into your Google profile. You've been able to see these before via your profile but the new section gives you the ability to see them all in once place.

The Manage Alerts tool is available right from the Me on the Web tool by clicking on ‘Set up search alerts for your data'. This will allow you to get email alerts from Google whenever your name, email or any search terms you specify are mentioned. This could be the name of a product that you produce or a business name for instance.

You can see the new Me on the Web tool and begin setting up alerts by visiting your Google Dashboard.

Download all of Wikipedia to your iPhone

All of Wikipedia brings literally all of Wikipedia to your iPhone and iPad for offline reading and browsing.

All of Wikipedia app is developed by Canada based Brilliantish Software, it's gorgeously designed, feature rich, includes a number of design options, is a breeze to use, features a powerful in-text search facility and loads articles extremely fast. Articles are updated whenever you have an Internet connection and similarly, images are downloaded as you read the article only when online. The app also comes available in English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic, and Dutch.

All of Wikipedia is not free, it will set you back $8.99. After purchasing, you are prompted to download the first data dump over wifi (4GB in English, 2GB for other languages). This takes between 3 and 4 hours. Your initial purchase allows you to download the Wikipedia data dump and then also download it again once after that for free. After that a $1 in app purchase will be required to cover the hosting and transferring of the file, this generally happens once a month.

if you're one to unwittingly find yourself deeply absorbed in random articles on Wikipedia, this app belongs on your home screen. Grab it here (iTunes Link).

Voice Search and Search by Image Are Coming to Google Desktop

Google just announced that they are bringing voice search and search by image to their desktop client.

Google Desktop—the basic interface you use when you visit google.com—getting voice search is pretty cool on its own, but the new feature will also perform live translations.

As for search by image, you will be able to drag an image into the search bar, and Google will provide canonical information about it. For example, if you drag an image of a business's logo, you'll get information about the company. No word on how accurately it will identify cellphone dong pics.

Touchscreen steering wheel

Multi-Touch Enabled Steering WheelA prototype automotive steering wheel that uses a touchscreen to let the driver control radio or navigate a map without loosing concentration.

With increasing technological advances just everything is becoming touch screen in today’s modern world.Falling into the same category, a new touchscreen steering wheel prototype has been recently unveiled at the Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems by a team of researchers from the University of Stuttgart, University of Duisburg-Essen and the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence.

The main aim of this creation is to enable driver to control things easily without being diverted while on the road. Sometimes while driving long distance, it becomes difficult for the driver to concentrate on the road and also change a song or change the buttons to increase or decrease the AC in the car. Unlike normal vehicle controls that divert the attention of the driver in most cases, this touchscreen steering wheel makes possible to control things and enables the driver to change the song or even change other functionalities in the car without taking his eyes off the road.

This steering wheel is eleven millimeters thick and has an acrylic body. It has infrared LEDs. An infrared camera is attached to the bottom of the wheel that senses the reflections when the screen is touched. Gestures can also be made without removing the hands off the steering wheel such as radio or navigating a map. This touchscreen steering wheel technology includes sensor systems that are specifically designed for checking road conditions and traffic.

The researchers undertook a survey to know the opinion of the people about the commands to be included in this prototype. For instance, zoom in and out can be done by pinching the screen with two fingers and others. After the gestures are established, the participants were also taken for testing the wheel in a simulator and have been proved that this prototype reduces the time the driver takes off the road and is completely safe.

iSwifter Enables iPad Users to Play Flash-Based Games

The app doesn't simply port Flash-based video content to the iPad, clearly, as it has to support multitouch for input if it's going to suffice for gameplay. And it isn't running Flash per se, something that would have put the app at odds with Apple's rules for developers. Instead, the app works something like Netflix, converting the Flash-based content on iSwifter's own servers then streaming the content to the app.

According to iSwifter founder Rajat Gupta, "We have spent the last year building a cloud-based Flash browser technology that provides low latency interactivity and high frame rate rendering for an optimal user experience." And that user experience will be key, particularly for gameplay.

By creating this app, iSwifter says it will save game developers the time of having to port their Flash games to iPad. But it will also open up the wealth of Flash-based games to iPad users. Mobile gaming is skyrocketing in popularity, and as we wrote last month, iOS users are particularly voracious when it comes to their gaming habits, downloading some 5 million games per day.
