The First Halal Search Engine Launched

The last few years Muslims have become very active on the Internet
. The lack of tools for Muslims to be able to continue their online activities responsibly has inspired
ImHalal.com to enter the search engine market.

Potential Muslim internet users who might previously have
avoided the internet for some of its less wholesome content, now have a safe option in the new search engine
Imhalal.com.

While internet use has increased steadily in the Middle East and North Africa over the last few of years, many potential users have stayed away due to religious concerns over the content. The search engine will not return results considered harmful, forbidden content, instead it will only show results that are halal, approved, under Muslim religious law.

Sardeha has high hopes and more plans for the future. "In one month's time we hope to add Islamic widgets such as prayer time so that you can easily find out when to pray or when you come to the website you will see a quote from the Qur'an. We are marketing Imhalal as a social homepage for Muslim households" He said.

"Imhalal is not a dictatorial or censorship website, we want people to be able to continue their online search," commented Sardeha.

The search engine uses 'various techniques' to determine which results are Halal (acceptable) or Haraam (forbidden).

What are your thoughts on this?

Unique Identity Cards for All Indians

The former CEO of Infosys, Nandan Nilekani, has taken up the challenge of heading a Government of India initiative that seeks to provide all Indians with an unique identity card (ID).

In February 2009, the Government of India envisioned a project for providing unique IDs to all Indians. To bring more accountability to this massive project, it asked the former CEO of Infosys, Nandan Nilekani, to head it.

The decade-long project, which Nandan calls, “the mother of all IT projects,” seeks to provide each of India’s 1.2 billion people with an ID card embedded with a microchip. This would help build a massive national database and bring a new accountability to the system. Most importantly, the project could enable millions of poor Indians to gain access to much-needed financial aid and social services.

Self Destructing Web Content

Self Destructing Web Content

Vanish! It is the new tool to delete online data. Developed by the University of Washington, Vanish allows data, messages, files, and other web content to self-destruct after a certain time. Soon, emails, Facebook messages, and Google documents can all be set to disappear into thin air by using Vanish, if assistant professor Yoshi Kohno, who designed the software had his way.

There is so much data now created, shared, and stored online, as opposed to on individual computers. And, documents could remain online for years, even after the user deleted the original file. Vanish would ensure that even archived or backed-up copies of the data are unreadable after the time limit set by the original user.

While it is a great technological advancement, this technology can easily be misused. Professor Kohno too acknowledges that the software could be used for ill intent.

Beware of Some of the Worst Email Mistakes!

According to the findings of a national survey carried out by Creative Group, a US firm that provides marketing and web services, almost eight out of ten advertising and marketing executives have confessed to making a mistake when sending an email. Read on to find out how to avoid the mistakes that can put an end to a career!

The most common mistakes range from sending an e-mail to the wrong person, accidentally sending out salary information or other personal data to the entire staff, unwittingly e-mailing a new job search to the boss, and sending personal photos as attachments instead of business spreadsheets.

Always giving your e-mail your individed attention and thinking twice before hitting the "Reply all" button are the best means of avoiding what can be unforgiveable errors.

"Email mistakes can be painfully visible and viral," says Megan Slabinski, Executive Director of the Creative Group. "Professionals must be especially careful in this economy not to do anything that could cause employers to question their competence or judgment, and that means paying close attention when sending any kind of message, particularly if the information is sensitive."

There are utilites like those at SperrySoftware.com or SlipStick .com that will prevent a majority of these problems.Of course, no tool can overcome that most insidious of problems - the lack of thinking before hitting Send
