Researchers at Philips have developed a new color e-paper technology, dubbed e-skin, that that can change the color and appearance of a device to match the user's mood, environment, or even their outfit. The first applications using the technology could be e-skins for small devices such as MP3 players or cell phones.
The e-skin technology is simple, cost-efficient and green, and should be easily adaptable to new applications.
"The technology is highly scalable," says Kars-Michiel Lenssen, principal scientist at Philips Research. Indeed, the e-skin has the potential to be used in the future for larger area ‘e-wallpapers’, where you can adjust the color of your wall, or smart windows, to regulate the daylight coming through your window.
This new technology will be presented at the International Display Workshops 2009 in Japan. Get the full story, with Chroma Chameleon.
